100 Years of Achievement - 100 Years of Heros
On December 17, 1903, two brothers made history by becoming the first humans to fly in a powered aircraft. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong made history by becoming the first human to step on the Moon. On June 21, 2004, civilian astronaut Mike Melvill made history by becoming the first private citizen to pilot a space craft into Earth's orbit.
A new era, a new space age has begun. No longer is space travel restricted to powerful world governments. Because of the work and ingenuity of companies around the world, civilian space travel has become a reality, and will soon be available to everyone.
Space Ship One was the first, but there are many others that are being developed. We have highlighted a few of these for you. Select from the links on the left to learn more about civilian space programs.
